Footage

So, since we are doing a Video Documentary about the Awakening Drama team, we shot some footage last night during a super short practice which consisted of taping four of our team members with an interview. We also came up with this great intro idea; I was sitting at a table with some photos behind me, there is music playing in the background and the picture is in black and white, while I silently act. It is really good! It turned out so great! and at the peak of a new measure, the screen blanks and screens in the title and names. I am really looking forward to the finished product, because even the intro is AMAZING! I can't wait to get it done and published and burned to a cd, well, Im looking for more music for it at this very moment, so I am going to head out of this blog for now!

Monday moves to Wednesday

Our regularily scheduled practice, which happens every monday night from 6-8 and for precision dance till 9, in the Greenroom, is not happening this week.
Today is Memorial Day, and for some reason this also means lock you out of shopping, restaurants, coffeeshops, and churches day.

For this very reason, we will be rescheduling our regular practice for this Wednesday, from 6-6:45 and will take place in the greenroom.

And for practice, it is not going to be very intense, and there will be no precision team practice, just enough to record to get some video footage for our video essay. But, the practice will be good, it'll be short and sweet...

I am going to have a nice relaxing day today, one full of relaxation, friends and food...lol

What Color is your Heart?

What color is your heart?

I just took a quiz on Facebook in which you answer the questions to find out what color your heart is...
Mine turned out to be Violet..which apparently means that I am;
resourceful, thorough, dependable, responsible, loyal, patient, placid, stable, sensual, affectionate, comfortable, solid, earthy, strong, money-oriented, practical, productive, cautious, musical, and artistic.
But that I can also sometimes be;
stubborn, indulgent, insecure, acquisitive, possessive, rigid, stodgy and slow.

It is actually pretty close to being my personality... Except for the possessive, stodgy, and slow part..but besides that, not much is off...

What color is YOUR heart?

Keeping my Mund Shut

It is in these moments; moments of confusion, moments of anger, moments of frustration, and moments when a friendship is being tried, that you really just want to give up on that person. The only word I have to describe the last school year is; BAD.
The quote that every mother says to her daughter or child for that matter, is that of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
I can only think of not-nice things to say to her or about her, so...it is in this very moments, where My lips are sealed.

I choose not to say anything in defense of my reputation and my dignity.
Saying what I feel at this moment would only result in bad things.

My lips are sealed.

Really Random

My Brother is sitting next to me and holding a balloon. It's orange and has a face on it. He said that the face is me. Now he is laughing. My sister is the one who drew the face of "me" on the balloon. We are making a pizza. It is cheese. Mozarella and Cheddar and Colby. It is going to be yummy. It is really fun to make a pizza crust, because you get to spin the dough and throw it in the air. Everyone around me was screaming "AHHH, YOU WILL DROP THE PIZZA!" But I did not listen. I kept on spinning the pizza in the air. It never touched the ground. Next, we spread tomato sauce on it, and spread it around with a spatula. After it turned a shade of candy apple red, we applied the cheese shreds. There are now 5 minutes left on the timer, and it will be done then. I am super ready to eat the pizza...and am going to enjoy it because of all of my labor that went into making it.

Car Venting Sessions

So, I always drop Leah off at home after practice, since her car has been broken for nearly the entire year so far. But, when I drop her off, we do a little thing called a "Car Venting Session." As I drive, we can yell, scream, cry, laugh, and kick things while we vent about the night's practice. What went wrong, what went right, what was stupid, and who was being an idiot at practice. It is really, the point that I look forward to at the end of everything. I am so sick of holding in every opinion that I have, and trying so hard not to say anything in front of team members, that once I reach for my seat belt. The moment I click it into place, it all comes pouring out. We've shed many tears, and laughed many times at people, and let out many a "UGH!!!"
Car Venting Sessions MUST be good for you. You don't hold anything back. You say what you feel and you just go for it.
I think everyone should have one night a week for Car Venting Sessions.

American Idol Finale

So this is it.
The moment of truth.
This is what the American Dream is Made of.
Who will be the season 7 American Idol?
David or David?

So this is what it has come down to; David Archuletta and David Cook. Both are super popular (duh, top two in USA!!), and good looking, both would be able to sell records...But with two completely different sounds, who is America going to choose? David A sings mostly ballades, or gets criticized if he tries an up-tempo song, but David really usually sticks to Rock, and gets criticized for the ballades.

So much music, and so little time to vote. Tonight is the moment of truth. 7 o'clock pm, on channel 8 (for me anyways...But FOX).
Only time will tell what America is feeling right now...what do they want to hear on the radio? Smooth and swoony or rock and roll?

America, this is your chance to choose. Choose well.

My "Secret" Plan

So, I thought this was pretty funny, and just had to share it. This is the secret plan of my life, according to Kimmy. We were talking about how I wanted to be a music pastor, and she showed me a song that she really liked with the words "all rising" in it, she said I should write a song with the lyrics in it and then she came up with this life-goal-type of plan that I am now "on a mission" to follow through with;"You will make a song with the main Chorus of "All Rising"It will be put on youtube where Simon Cowell will happen upon it and make you a BIG star! For a year or two you will recieve tons of money for your work and then you will donate or give the government money to put prayer back in schoolThen you will spend the rest of your Blessed life as a worship leader!"So funny, and I sum it up as, by writing a song with the words "all rising" in it, I will essentially put worship back into school! That seems easy enough. The only part that may take some work is the 'getting simon cowell to watch and love it" part. But, Kimmy, I will do my best!!

He Loves Us

I heard a new song about a week ago, and I fell in love with it at first listen.
There are so many things that we love in life, boys, music, friends, family, and clothes are all some of the things that I love. But there is one love that is different than all of the rest. The kind of love that would give his son to die just for me. Just for you. Even though I am nothing close to perfect, and I didn't know him, he DIED FOR ME! And right now, as I listen to the song, I am so moved. I can't explain how much I love Him. He is so wonderful. It is in the small things in life, when I realize just how beautiful he is and how great his affections are for me. He is something that I cannot even explain. He is God. Oh, how he loves us. I know that I will feel similar to this when I fall in love with my future husband, but right now there is nothing compareable. There is a line in the song that says "I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way he loves us, oh, how he loves us, oh how he loves us, oh how he loves...and so on.
In life, you cannot resist the temptation to regret your past, at least in one or two ways. But when that feeling of love and forgiveness encompasses you, you would never change a thing. Because you would rather sink in His ocean of Grace once you've found it.
He loves us.

Sick Day

I am really not feeling the greatest. My throat hurts, and my stomach aches like nausea-type ache. I'm just going to take it easy until drama practice tonight. Hopefully I'm feeling better by this afternoon. Otherwise, that would be really bad. I have never missed a drama practice since we started it, and it's almost been like 9 months. But, anyways, I really just need to feel better.

Those days when you wish you could have gone to school, so that you are for sure able to do things that evening. Those days when you wish you didn't feel like junk so that you could be with friends, even though you would have had to go to school. Today is one of 'those days'.
I just want to stop coughing, stop aching, and feel better.

Marissa

Tears of the Leaders

The drama is coming along pretty well, and we finally got the "Tears of the Saints" song edited. I really am excited for our next practice, since it took us about three hours to edit and perfect the song. WOW!!! So, the next step is to edit and perfect our drama. Which is taking some time, but getting 5 steps better every week. We're making great progress!
As far as Precision Team goes, it is also very well. We are in the process of creating a super difficult dance, as a team, which has so far been really fun, and will probably just get easier and better. Every time we practice, we progress. Which should not be a surprise, as we went through a lot in the process of picking the best dancers, and then picking the best of those best, cutting about 17 people!!!! It was difficult, but I am glad that we didn't give any slack in the decisions.
We the people of the Awakening Drama Team, promise to do our best and entertain well. We promise to have a dance that will make you dance along, and have a drama that you will get very emotional during.
We promise this because we care, and because; that's what we do.
Until Later,
Marissa

My College Plans

For college, I am super excited to get started down the new path of life. The path towards adulthood. I really can not believe how quickly life is coming at me. I am very excited to find the plans that God has for me, and in what direction he is going to take me. I used to want to be a fashion designer or a photographer, or some sort of artist. God has blessed me with the gift of creativity. And I am still going into a feild in creativity, but I really think that I have been called to music ministry. This really excites me as music is my passion, and yet another gift that God has given me.
I have always written songs, and have played piano for about 9 years. I also play guitar and flute, and have a passion for singing. So, why didn't I see this career like, 9 years ago?? I am not really that sure, but all I know is that I am called to the music ministry now.
I really would like to attend Moody Bible Institute. It's located in Downtown Chicago (PERFECT!!!), and at Moody, they believe in their students so much, that they have been called by God into the ministry, that they pay for your tuition...that's right, no tuition costs! It seems to be falling together, since ever since I have heard of this college, I really haven't seriously thought of another.
I am so excited to see where my life is going to take me, and to experience all of the stops on the way.
Until Later,
Marissa

Thank God for In-Class-Blogging

I am so glad that we have had a chance to do some blogging in class. I really was worried that I wouldn't have a chance to blog again, since I have such a hectic schedule but that will no longer be a worry, since this week is coming to an end, and so, Saturday is on it's way...it's going to be a good day.
I really can't believe that it's almost summer we the Awakening Drama Team have many upcoming performances that are happening simply this summer alone. Such as;
  • Loud (May 24th or that wednesday anyways)
  • Summer Camp (June 18th-21st)
  • We are going to a town that's about 3 hours away and are going to perform there for some sort of huge event they are having where about 3 cities worth of youth groups come together for a big conference-like event.
  • Then in August, we are hosting a major event that is going to be SICK!! It's called Surge and there are youth groups coming from out of town, and possibly out of state. We are performing three different dances. One each night of the conference.

I really can't believe how quickly things are falling into place for this team. We haven't even had the team for an entire year, and we have already been noted as the 'best out there right now.' This is music to my ears since I am a total dance and drama fanatic! This is my life, and it's turning out to be pretty amazing.

It's Been A While

With all of the Stressors in life, who needs to blog? It's an outlet, yes, but also a time consumor.

It's been a while, since I last posted. There's been a lot of stuff happening in the last few days, but I'm okay. It's just been a lot of stupid drama. I have been tired and worn out the last couple of days, because of the lack of sleep and the craploads of homework. But, all in all, it's just been really hard to get around to blogging here. I have way too many things going on in the course of a week; drama, dance, piano lessons, voice lessons, work, church, editing songs, trying to work on making a mix for a new dance, guitar lessons, Leadership, and on top of that, this stupid drama that has been happening the last week or so, plus trying to keep up with my social life, so that in the end, I will still have friends!
UGH, Sometimes, I hate being so involved, but the relationships that I have come across, and the connections I have made, seem to be something that will be a very positive thing.

I will try to post again sometime this week, but it won't be today, since directly after school, I work until 6, and then at 6 I have a guitar lesson, until 7:30, which I don't even know if I'm going to go to it...but yeah, and then I really want to hang out with a friend who I havent hung out with in forevs!! IDK, Hopefully tomorrow, which is even less likely...Since I have school, then work until 6, and then a birthday party to go to, and then a middle school girls sleepover that I'm going to since I am in leadership...
SO, Whatever...we'll see

I'm Okay

So Last night's practice really did not go over so well... But that will not affect me today, it's a new day. There were issues with addittudes, and people not liking the part that they got...and other such nonsense. I could not belive that after all of the putting on a pedestal I did with my team, that they would seriously have an addittude with me! I was very upset that people would act like that, and although one person did actually notice my frustration, and apologized, it left me with a regret for chosing this person. It would be really easy to replace a character, with someone who would rather do it, or at least wouldn't talk down the drama and complain and mope the entire time. Once again, I don't care if you had a bad day. I have those all of the time. It's just that you need to put this stuff behind you and get on with your life, without making other people suffer for your lack of happiness. There's my two sense...now I'm getting on with my day.

Marissa

Drama Practice Tonight

Tonight is the first official "Precision Team" Practice. Tonight's practice will consist of deciding if we would like a new name for the team, one that sets us apart from, but still includes us in the rest of the team. We will also be beginning the first dance, which will be danced to the song "Frontline" by Pillar. It is going to be pretty stinkin' cool. lol
Also, at 6:30 when the rest of the team arrives, we will officially begin the new drama to "Tears of the Saints" By Leeland. We have chosen the main characters, and the other parts as well, and are very happy with how we are seeing it come together already.
I really need to go, since tonight is going to be a super busy night. I will write again sometime soon.

A Day of Fun

Well, half days are always the best part of school, yes it's pointless to be there, but it counts for an entire day of school. My friends and I have had the tradition ever since Freshman year, that we always go out to eat on half days, and today we went to Fiesta del sol. It was really fun even though not many of us were able to go. It ended up being just me, three of the guys, and one other girl. But it was still really fun... Tonight we will all be going to a sleepover (the boys are just joining us for the movie...lol...sicko). Anyways, and we're gonna have a scavenger hunt and such... I'm excited. I need to go now, I have to work now until tonight, but anyways, half days are always good days...lol
Until Later,
Marissa

Casting

The hardest part of putting a production together is that of casting.

We started putting together a new drama which we will be performed at an event called "LOUD." LOUD is an event where there is a bunch of music performances, obviously our performance, a sermon, worship, and lots of basketball in the gym or hanging out in our coffeeshop. It's a pretty major event since there are always a lot of people there. Also we will be performing this at our summer camp this year it's called "Wired," and we will be renting out an entire level of a UNI dorm building. It will be a pretty major performacne as well.
Our new drama is to the song "Tears of the Saints" by Leeland. It is going to be a very powerful drama, as the story line is very personal and effective. I am hoping that it will really touch a lot of people who watch it. I am really looking forward to this one. I think it will be one of our best drama's yet. After discussing and debating who would be good in which parts, we settled on parts, and I feel really good about the parts we chose.
All in all, this is a tough job, because you never know who is going to be upset when all is said and done, but with this new drama, I really don't care, since I really do think that we chose the best people for the parts.
That's enough for now I think...

Marissa

Monday the 14th's practice...

Practice went well yesterday, as planned, except for a few minor frustrations, such as additudes of certain people on the team who think that they are better than I and have heads the size of fired up hot-air-balloons with the vain addittude to match the size of their puffed up ego and swelling mental state. Yeah, that was practice last night...I actually at the end of practice, had to take Leah outside with me and have her scream with me. She had been just as frustrated as I was during practice. But things got better as I just let it go, and the scream helped quite a bit as well. I am so glad I'm not doing this on my own. I think I would have gone insane by now. Anyways, I do still have other homework to do, and I need to go clean my room, and watch American Idol...So, yeah, I'll talk to you later.
Until Later,
Marissa

Sinking Feeling

Have you Ever felt that sinking feeling? The one that comes when you do something wrong? Well not wrong, but you know that someone is going to be angry with a decision you made, and worse yet, you know that you made a correct decision? Yeah, not good. You know how I told you about the Precision Team right? Well, a very close friend of mine tried out, and when we were talking about those who should be on it, in a comparison of the trier-outers, her name was not brought up, I automatically-subconciously just thought that she would be on it, but I guess I'm not sure why, because at the tryouts, she really was not that good. AHH...The bad thing is, neither me nor Leah (other leader) have told her yet, and she is both of our's really close friend! This is really stressing me, and I wish that I would have told her already, seeing as everyone else knows who's on the team. I'm just really not sure how to tell her! This is making me angry just thinking about it, so...

Precision Team

Okay, So we are now going to have a "Precision Dance Team." This idea was inspired to me when I was watching "Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew." (Which is really an amazing show!!) I was watching it and man were those teams PERFECT! I thought to myself, "Why can't our team do dances as cool as that?" And my solution was simple, we need the best of the best, and we should keep it SMALL! The smaller the team, the more "precise" they can be! So, we had been planning on it for some time, and I feel really good about this decision. We decided to have the team audition, and out of 25, 17 wanted to try out for what we decided would become a 7 member team. I didn't quite realize how many good dancers we had! I think this was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, was cutting 12 (Leah and I are two of the seven) people. Less than 50% of those who tried out, got onto the team! Alll in all though, I feel really good about teh decisions we made. This team is going to be SUPER good. The people we chose, plus the dances we have in mind, plus the energy of the team, is going to result in an incredible dance team! I am really excited to see what will come of this team!

Okay, so not completely satisfied

Okay, so I know I just made an entry talking about how I was satisfied...well, I never said I promised! lol, so unorginization seems to be a huge problem...not with me, but just recently. With the whole Ottumua thing, there has been no communication between them and our church, because they will not respond to emails, phonecalls, or even texts! So when all was said and done, we just decided with our youth pastor, that we would just plan on leaving at 3pm on Sunday, get to the church in Ottumua, and hope that we were still in their plans. So, if any of you out there are from Ottumua, please, RESPOND!! Are you still alive? Are you even there?

The Shirts are in!!

It's in times like these, that I really feel as though I have accomplished things. I got a phone call yesterday letting me know that the shirts had arrived! I was so excited! I went right after school to the Cotton Gallery, and picked up the shirts. They look so great!! I couldn't believe we actually had team shirts now! After all of the stress that I've been through, and all of the bad things that have happened, things are finally falling into place. We are performing at our first ever "away" performance. It's at a church in Ottumua. I am super excited for that and can't wait to go! We are a team, and with that there have been many ups and downs, and of course there are many more just waiting for me and the team, but until then, I am completely satisfied!

Essay Topic

I know this has nothing to do with the drama team or anything, but this blog is a school assignment, so I will post this here.
For my essay, I will be writing about music. No, not just music, but the effect of music on the brain. It's psychological effects. What are different ways that people use music to pursuade people to do things?, and the way that certain songs and genres will make you feel emotionally.
I am very excited to write this essay, I think that it will be very interresting to write as well as read, and I hope that everyone who comes along it will find it very useful to their everyday life. I think that this is an essay that anybody could read, because not only is it interresting, but everyone listens to music, or at least hears it while at a restaurant or shopping, or even standing in an elevator. This would mean that everyone has been effected by it. Although you're not even thinking about being 'emotionally altered' by the background music, you have been.
I am looking forward to writing my essay, and hope that everyone who reads it finds it very useful!

Stress Relief

Okay, so you know how some people have different ways of relieving their stress? Well, I came up with the perfect solution, and it's not some crazy remedy either! I finally managed to get through our performance today, without getting too majorly frantic, but these last few weeks have been crazy stressful in attempt to prepare for our performances, and no, it's not finished, we still have a performance on Wednesday and next sunday, but the big one of these is finally through...our annual easter service where attendance is 3,000. Ummmm...yeah...BUT I am okay now.
So, you wanna know what the best form of stress relief is? It is simply this, get through it, make it to the day that you have been stressing over, take it as a challenge, and make it through. As soon as that stressful time is over, you will instantly feel relief! Yes, it is as simple as that!
Well, this has been great and all, but it is time for me to go relax.

TSHIRTS!!

WOO-HOO!!!
I am super excited! We are finally ordering our team t-shirts! They are gonna look so great! We are ordering two per person. One is a shirt that we will wear for our dramas, this t-shirt is black, and will have our logo of "the Awakening" with a dove by/behind it written in white (dove in silver) and our second shirts will be red, with the logo (writing in black dove in silver) and all of our team members will have the nick-name that they picked on the back!! They really do look great! I saw some samples, and am so excited! We are going to put in our order on Saturday over at the Cotton Gallary.
Well, I will probably post pictures or something soon, I don't know about you but this blog is kinda dull without anything!!

this is a test.

What Makes Me Cry?

So in the previous blog, I mentioned that this week, I need to learn how to cry. Now, you might say that I'm a freak...but it's not like I've never cried before...duh...but I am having a hard time making myself cry. So I am going to make a list of all of the things that make me cry;
1. Pain
2. Getting in Trouble
3. Someone making a rude comment or saying something rude to me
4. When my Grandpa died
5. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....

Why is this so hard? I must have more things that make me cry! Maybe I don't cry as much as the average person??? Maybe? Whatever...

What makes you cry?

Monday Night Fights

So yeah, there were no "fights" last night, and my title is somewhat deceptive...but there is somewhat of a fight to keep up and keep going with everything that it seems like I need to do. Get chains for drama, get team shirt orders in, get everyone to pay for their shirts so that I don't have to, Figure out how to cry, Figure out how to look sad without looking mad, talk to Pastor Larry about red chains, talk to Duke about a cross, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!!! Life is crazy enough without all of this added in!! I need to get all of this done within this week! AND, it doesn't help that Easter is the most attended to week of the year at church, so this drama has to be top notch, and I am so afraid that it's not. I have things to do now, but I thought I'd vent a little...so there it is.

Totally Random!!

UPDATE
Well, I decided that I am going to write about one of two things.
Either
1. Music and its affects on peoples additudes, reactions, and actions or
2. The History of Fashion, when, where, and what it did to society

I'm Back!

So just to let you know, soon there will be videos on this site. I am going to put the videos of our performances; Set Me Free, The Real Party, Can You Feel It, and after our easter performance, we will have the video of Lead Me To the Cross. I am super excited to make this blog un-boring... Along with this, I will probably add a slideshow of our practices or videos from them. I want to spice up this blog and it's going to be a lot of work probably, seeing as I am not that
computer-savvy. But because of this, I will need some help by the amazing Iben... lol, (He will love that) but seriously, he is pretty amazing when it comes to techie stuff that I don't understand...so yeah.
Anyways, I aim to have all new features up in a week or two...but hopefully within a week.
Until Later,

Monday Nights Practice

This last Monday went especially well. Things are changing and changing for the better. There was a heightened level of maturity and focus in the room as we are counting down the days to our Easter Performance. For the Easter Sunday Service, we will be performing a drama to the song "Lead Me to The Cross" by one of the 'Hillsong' singers. It's pretty much the best song I've ever heard and my new favorite. It would take forever to explain what it's about, but once we have performed it, I will post the video on here. Anyways, I got slightly off track there...but that is not surprising...
Back to Practice...So usually, we start at 6:30 and go until 8:30 for practices, but I saw that no one was using the first 15-20 minutes of worship. So I decided that it would be a better idea to start worship at 6:15 for those who want to come, then actual practice starts at 6:30 as usual. Not only does this help to keep distractions out of the room, it also allows for more time for much needed practice.
Well, This is all that I have to update you on for now...
Until Later,
Marissa

There Will Be Practice Tonight!

With all of the Snow, Ice, Sleet, and Rain that we have been having within the last few weeks, one might ask if we are going to be having practice tonight, since we had all of those weather conditions simply last night. The answer to that question is YES!!! We are going to have practice tonight...we do not have time to listen to those weather reports! The Drama Team has been asked to perform for our annual Easter Service, and since we have only had one practice with the new drama, we absolutely must continue having practices. Now, I will understand if one or two members are not able to make it to practice because of weather, (for example they would have to shovel their way out of their house. But for the rest of us, we are going to have a actor/mailman's mentality. "Through Snow, Sleet, and Pouring Rain...The Show must go on..." Count on Having Practice!!!!
